Removing your old wood double hung windows.

Last week I informed you ways to measure your wood window openings to correctly order your new vinyl replacement windows. This week I am going to explain the best way to remove your old windows. Beginning from within the house and working out, you have got a wood stop roughly three / 8" X three / 8". Then you have another wood stop ( called a parting bead ) between the lower sash and higher sash. Before starting, be certain to wear safety glasses and gloves. The interior stop must be removed first.

try to not damage these, they will be re-installed after the replacement windows are put in. Window shades. If you need to happen to crack the old stops, you can take a piece to a shop or molding store to get replacement wood stops. Then put a stiff blade putty knife into this seam and pry the stop away from the frame. Start in the middle of the stop where there's the most suppleness. The majority of the time there'll be stops around all 4 sides of the opening, but i have seen some openings that did not have a top stop, and others that had no bottom stop. Then, you've got to pay the income of the installers. In a number of cases there's a broker who acts as a broker, and he gets a cut too. You eliminated everyone apart from the owner. If you order them too little, you are going to finish up having to improvise to make them work. After the within stops have been removed, you should be in a position to pull the lower sash out. If the windows were painted shut at one point, you could have to pry the area where the lock is found to separate the sashes. Take 2 tin snips and cut the cords while maintaining strain on them. If it is painted to the outside stop, CAREFULLY pry the sash from the outside stop with a stiff putty knife. You would like to avoid damaging the outside stop. Check to ensure there are no obstructions in the opening like nails, the metal tab at the bottom for holding in the old screen, for example.
